Leawood Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Dec. 6.
The $1.6 million center opened in October and provides personalized care for adults over 55 years of age experiencing acute behavioral symptoms associated with dementia and/or a mental health condition including: bi-polar disorder, anxiety, depression and schizophrenia.
The state of the art 22 bed unit provides a welcoming, safe, supportive environment where patients receive care based on their individualized needs. The center features dedicated clinical staff specially trained to understand the diverse and complex needs of the older patients they serve. The staff includes psychiatrists, internal medicine physicians, psychiatric nurses who also are experienced in caring for medical/surgical patients, social workers, and physical/occupational/recreational therapists.
“The services our Senior Behavioral Health Center offers are in high demand. This new unit is in response to an important community need,” said Jodi Fincher, Administrator of St. Joseph Medical Center. “We are looking ahead, and as the baby boomer generation ages, the need for this service will grow. This unit will also complement our Senior Care Services program that includes senior friendly emergency rooms, a comprehensive senior inpatient program and Sister Margaret’s Senior Clinic.”
On Friday, December 14, St Joseph Medical Center will be holding an open house and ribbon cutting from 2:00pm – 5:00pm to celebrate the opening of the new center. Members are encouraged to attend.
