Leawood Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Aug. 15.
The Leawood City Council had a busy agenda at their Monday, August 12 meeting.
In addition to expanding the City’s non-discrimination ordinance (see blog post), several projects received final plan approval, and several changes were made to the City’s ordinances.
A major project that will be located on the south side of 135th is Regents Park multi-family development. The project will include completion of the connection of 137th Street from Chadwick to Kenneth Road. The first phase will be made up of a total of 57 attached villas with a total of 123 units that will be available for purchase. Later phases, not included in this approval, are slated to include commercial, retail and additional multi-family units. This is the first major residential project approved in the 135th Street corridor and will include meandering walking trails and several large green space areas that will mostly be located along the new 137th Street connection. Also given final plan approval is an exterior remodel of the McDonald’s restaurant at 95th & Nall in Ranch Mart north. The new remodel will make the location consistent in approach with many of the other newly renovation locations throughout town and will also include new traffic flow changes and the addition of a second drive-through lane.
Another notable action taken by the council was a change to the sign ordinance to allow developers to apply for new signage on a building without requiring an entirely new sign plan for the whole commercial development. Under the change, plans for new signage will be approved as an amendment to the approved sign plan.
The Council also approved an ordinance change to the Development Plan Approval process that removes the requirement for unanimous approval of all property owners in a commercial development before a plan change could be considered. Plan changes will still be required to go through the full Plan approval process, with opportunities for public comment for adjacent property owners who may oppose the change.
